Eastern Red Cedar

This is a good somewhat raspy call.  I like it with slate over glass.

Striker

Eastern Red Cedar Double Sided

A very raspy call that gives you two playing surfaces all in one. This is my best selling call.

American Chestnut

While this tree species is virtually extinct due to chestnut blight that ravaged the forests in the 1940's, limited supplies of wood are still available through the salvaging from old barns and other buildings that were constructed using this species.  Therefore, this is a unique opportunity to own a piece of American Chestnut.  Eventually, almost all of the buildings containing this wood will be gone.  It is not uncommon for American Chestnut wood to exhibit worm and nail holes, which add to the character of this unique and virtually exinct wood.  Supplies are limited for making this call.

Black Walnut

This is a good all around call.  Walnut is a mildly soft wood, which gives the call a crisp sound.  I prefer a slate over glass calling surface with this call.

Black Walnut Double Sided

This is a great call.  Again this call gives you some versitility with the two playing surfaces.

Soft Maple

This call provides a similar sound to walnut.  I prefer a slate over glass calling surface with this call.

Mahogany

Mahogany is also a mildly soft wood.  The sound is similar to that of walnut and maple, however, mahogany wood is an exotic wood, exhibiting a unique wood grain which makes it popular for furniture construction.

Osage Orange Double Sided

Osage orange is a very hard wood.  The great part about this call is that if use glass over slate you will have a call that is loud enough for windy day using the glass side.  The slate side is soft enough for normal calling conditions.

Padauk

Paduak is a hard wood which makes it a loud call.  A slate over slate calling surface provides a good all around call, good for normal calling conditions.  A glass over glass calling surface provides a louder sound, good for windy calling conditions.

Zebrawood

Zebrawood has some unique grain characteristics.  The call provides a very raspy sound.  I prefer a slate over slate calling surface with this call.

Zebrawood Double sided

This call provides all of the characteristics of a single sided zebrawood call with the added benefits of two calling surfaces.  This is one of my favorite calls it provides a wide range of calling capabilities.

How to Customize your Call

Choose the Striker

Different striker species can produce different sounds and sound qualities.  See our Striker page for an explanation of the different species we offer and their sounds.  Strikers are included with each call or a specific striker can be ordered separately.

Choose the Striking Surface and Sounding Board
You can further customize your call by selecting the striking surface.  A few pointers:
Glass over glass produces the loudest sound. Which makes it a desirable striking surface for windy days.
Slate over slate produces the softest, more raspy sound, good for when that Tom is getting close.
Mixing the surfaces, glass over slate, and slate over glass produces a sound that somewhere in the middle, making them versatile for most all situations.
